１９９４年迪士尼電視動畫部門（Walt Disney Television Animation）將經典動畫【阿拉丁】改拍電視影集播出，播出前為了幫此影集造勢，迪士尼電視動畫部門製作一部直接以錄影帶方式發行的【賈方復仇記】上市，此錄影帶只花了很少成本製作，迴響卻很大，全美錄影帶銷售居然名列前茅，迪士尼無心插柳竟然意外找到另一門路，使得迪士尼經典動畫故事得以延伸。所以，後來迪士尼投注更多資源拍攝此一『 影音產品首映系列』（Video Premiere），讓迪士尼經典動畫延續新生命，不過製作是由電視動畫部門負責，並不是製作原來電影的迪士尼片廠。之後此電視動畫部門於２００３年更名為『迪士尼卡通片廠』（DisneyToon Studios）。迪士尼電視動畫部門所製作的經典動畫續集，有些甚至還於戲院上映推出，有在戲院上映的就歸類在『電影版卡通』（Movietoons）；而直接以發行影音產品方式首度推出的才歸類在『影音產品首映系列』之中。
